On Thursday 2nd June, Property 101 Group along with around 50 of their friends, family, suppliers and clients held a Pink Ribbon High Tea in Parnell to fundraise for breast cancer research. The initiative was run over the month of May, and next year will be bigger and brighter, so we want to encourage/challenge others to do the same by getting up and doing some good for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).
“I had a scare last year and I can honestly say it was terrifying, & I’m one of the lucky ones, so the more we can do to support prevention & research in the battle against breast cancer the better.” “We wanted to do our bit to support an organisation that’s funding research to save women’s lives.” Says Property 101 Group Director Joanne Barreto.
The Pink Ribbon Breakfasts are an annual campaign to raise much-needed funds for the work of the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. “In addition to research, a large part of our work is in informing and supporting people in the community, so it’s wonderful to see communities helping us to meet that need,” says Evangelia Henderson, chief executive of the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
Proceeds from the Pink Ribbon Breakfasts will go towards funding research projects and medical grants to help improve breast cancer survivorship in New Zealand. The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1994 and is the country’s foremost breast cancer education and awareness organisation. They are a non-government funded charitable trust promoting awareness of breast cancer, providing information and education, and raising funds to support breast cancer related initiatives including research, scholarships and breast cancer patient registers. The NZBCF also funds community support programmes which help women recover from breast cancer and provide practical daily help for those living with life limiting breast cancer.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their amazing support, especially Quality Hotel Parnell for their generosity and my mum (Josie Barreto) for organizing everything, Servilles Newmarket & T2 for sponsoring the goodie bags, Parnell rotary, my team & everyone that donated but couldn’t attend & of course all the fabulous people that did take the time out to come along and support our the high tea.”
“I feel so lucky to have had such an incredible year of change, and am so grateful for all the opportunities I’ve been given, but everyone needs to be reminded now and then not to take anything for granted, including your health! We were so lucky to have Siobhan Marshall (& her beau Millen Baird) come and speak to us about how to make the most of every day, whether you’re dancing with the stars, sporting skimpy outfits in Outrageous Fortune or other adventures! She even took us on a journey of meditative appreciation for what we have concluding in a toast to ‘boobs’! It was a fantastic afternoon!”
The Pink Ribbon Breakfasts are a great opportunity to get together over breakfast, lunch or anytime and raise funds for The Foundation. If you would like to know more about the event and work together or accept our challenge to lift the bar & raise even more next year, please feel free to contact Jo Barreto on joanne@prop101.co.nz.
